JOTA 2008October 16th and 17th in Hooper Park.JAMBOREE ON THE AIR is a yearly event that is organized by the Boy Scouts of America and the ARRL as an International event to provide experience to Scouts on how radio waves work and give them the experience of talking to scouts across the world. The Davis County Amateur Radio Club has been involved in public service from the inception of the club. This event has been of interest for the "ham" community in Davis county to help the scout program and to expose youth to the magic of radio. The members feel amateur radio has great educational and recreational values, contributing to international goodwill and a lifetime of enjoyment and learning. Jamboree on the Air is taking place the 16th and 17th of October at Hooper Park. Which is located at 5500 South 6000 West Hooper, Utah. Camp set-up starts at 4:00 p.m. and the program starts at 6:00 p.m. The event is planned to extend to about 3:00 p.m. Saturday. Use this form to sign-up. If scouts follow the outlined program they will earn the Radio merit badge. Each troop will be required to have for each scout the requirement sheets (7 pages) and a blue card filled out with the essential information. Merit badge councillors will sign them during the service project as they inspect each scouts requirement sheets. There is no fee charged from Hooper city and the adjacent church which has been generous enough to provide these facilities for free. In lieu of this fee we will do a service project for the city by cleaning up the park and the restroom we use. For scouts to receive the merit badge and complete all requirements, troops will be expected to arrive on time and stay for the entire event, including the short service project. Because of the way the event is organized your troop can't fulfill all requirements and it is impossible for blue cards to be signed because some feel a need to leave early. If you cannot stay for the entire event (expected to last until 3:00 p. m. ), please don't expect your scouts to be given a blue card. Partial requirements achievement will be the result of leaving early. To learn more about JOTA, read the ARRL's excellent JOTA description. Read about the annual JOTA Camp-out. Scouts all over the nation (and if propagation permits) all over the world will be being tutored by hams about amateur radio next Friday and Saturday. The Clubs JOTA chairman, John Moyer requests from you all to get on these frequencies to help get as many young people on the air and experience the thrill of radio. Our club will especially be active from 7:00 p.m. Friday evening the 16th to 10:00 p.m. Radio operators will be calling CQ Jamboree on the Air or CQ JOTA. Our club special event station call sign is N7N. The call frequencies for this event are: (please write them on the board)

JOTA is held the third weekend in October. JOTA always begins Saturday at 0001 hours local time to Sunday 2359 hours local time, though some activity continues over from Friday to Monday to take advantage of long distance (DX) time differences.
What is JOTA? When Scouts want to meet young people from another country, they think ofattending a World Jamboree. But few people realize that each year more than400,000 Scouts and Guides "get together" over the airwaves for theannual Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA). JOTA offers Scouts the exciting opportunityto make friends in other countries without leaving home. JOTA allows Boy and Girl Scouts and Guides from all over the world to speakto each other via Amateur (ham) Radio. Scouting experiences are exchanged andideas are shared via radio waves. Many contacts made during JOTA have resultedin pen pals and links between Scout troops that have lasted many years.
The Davis County Amateur Radio Club sponsors an annual camp-outat Hooper City Park (see directions below) to allow Scouts to experience JOTA and work on theRadio Merit Badge. (If your Scouts are not interested in working on theRadio Merit Badge, they are still very welcome to attend the camp.) Thereis no cost for your Troop to participate, but pre-registration isrequired. Send the indicated pre-registration materials to the CouncilService Center.
