Congratulations on obtaining or upgrading your Ham Radio ticket. This is totally awesome! Your hard work and study has helped you in obtaining this goal. So what do you do after the exam?
- If you took your test with the Davis County VEC you can expect that your test results will be submitted to W5YI by the end of the next day. W5YI will then process your results and submit them to the FCC.
- Watch for an email from the FCC. The FCC will send the email to the address that you used to obtain your FRN. In this email the FCC will provide a link with instructions on how to pay any applicable fees. You will have 10 calendar days from the date of the email to pay the fee.
- After paying your fee to the FCC they will process this payment and then send you a second email. This email will contain a link to your official license. The link will be valid for 30 days.
OK that is the technical info, now on to the fun part!
With your call sign in hand (or almost in hand) it is now time to figure out what you are going to do with it. Davis County ARC is here to help you. Our club has monthly meetings where we get together to learn more about our hobby. We also participate in public events, contests, camping and so much more. To help you navigate this new experience we encourage you to reach out to our member support chair who will be able to get you in contact with other Hams who can help you get started.
I also encourage you to get involved and volunteer. Our club has many opportunities to volunteer. As you help out you will also be learning about the hobby, making new friends and discovering how much Ham Radio has to offer.
