Connector Dressing

At the club meeting, I ran out of those little tubes of blue connector dressing. Since we are not meeting for a while, I don’t have an easy way to distribute more of them quickly. But my call, W7DB, is good on QRZ.com, and if you are in Layton and want to pick one up at my house, you’re welcome to one.

Some have wondered what it is and how it works. It’s a dielectric that lubricates the contact surfaces. Once the connector is engaged and tightened, it oozes out of the way and does not affect connector resistance. What it does do is exclude moisture and greatly extend connector life. A little dab on the female connector will spread dressing on the male pin when it is inserted. Similarly, a little dab on the inside of the connector shell will treat the threads.
