Larry Jacbos WA7ZBO will be coming to speak with us. The meeting will
involve a short discussion and demonstration of Fox Hunting. We will
then go on an actual Fox Hunt. Make sure to bring your HT, direction
Antennas, paper clip, etc. We will start as a group to get the first
bearing on the bunny (to allow demonstrating of the various equipment
people have) and then go as groups to find the bunny. This will be a
driving hunt. We want to group up to allow newer hams to go with
experienced hams on the hunt. We will monitor the '04 repeater for
talk-ins, help, etc.
Normally we do this in July but due to the Utah Hamfest and also other
service events (Parades, Fireworks, etc.) we are scheduling this now.
We are calling July a MONTH OF SERVICE.
CQ magazine has declared May 10 and 11 as “CQ Worldwide Fox Hunting Weekend.”
This is the weekend during which hams are encouraged to participate in
hidden transmitter hunts and improve their direction-finding skills and
equipment.
Larry Jacobs, WA7ZBO, tells us that he will again be running a hidden
transmitter (or “bunny” or “fox”) through most of the weekend. It will
operate on 146.56 MHz (FM). Larry writes:
It will have a steady
output of 5 watts and should cover most of the Salt Lake Valley. Along
with the main transmitter will be what we call “Mini fox,” a 50-mw
transmitter operating on 146.50 MHz.
The pair of "Foxes" will go on the air Friday, May 9th and will
transmit continuously until Monday, May 13th. This should give ample
time for you to find the fox and sign a log book at the site. As in the
past, there are no rules or prizes, just an opportunity to have fun.
Good luck and we hope to see your name in the book.
