On Thursday, December 22, 2022 Congressman Bill Johnson introduced a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives (H.R. 9670) to eliminate private land use restrictions that prohibit, restrict, or impair the ability of an Amateur Radio Operator from operating and installing amateur station antennas on property subject to the control of the Amateur Radio Operator.
I encourage all Ham Radio Operators to contact your representatives in congress and urge support of this bill. Many of our friends live in communities that restrict ham radio antennas and other visible equipment. I used to live in one of these communities and the restrictions made it all but impossible for me to operate from home. When having conversations with my neighbors they didn’t even understand that I could use a very unnoticeable antenna. But it always came down to “the rules” and the board never wanted to hear about changing them. I’m not sure what will be the outcome of this bill, but I do believe in making our voices heard. If you support this type of legislation, please reach out to your members of congress (in writing if possible) and encourage them to support this legislation. Encourage your friends and neighbors and anyone that belives emergency preparedness and emergency communication is important. The more people that voice their support the better luck we will have in getting this passed. To view the legislation please click here
